CHAIRMAN MESSAGE

Vikash had a modest beginning in the year 2002 in the form a primary school with a strength of 200 students in a rented house in Bargarh. And within its eight years of journey it has sprouted its wings to different parts of the state establishing and educating a strength of 5500 students from Primary to Senior Secondary in CBSE and CHSE in Bargarh, Sambalpur and Bhubaneswar besides technical B.Tech degree institute, Vikash College of Engineering for Women in Bargarh to brighten their future and career at all levels.

The academic year 2009-10 was a milestone in the annals of Vikash as we stepped into the Capital of our state by starting these two ventures in the name of Vikash  Residential School & Vikash Residential College. Dear parents, though  Vikash was a household name in western part of Orissa, we felt as if like a  small drop of water in an ocean. This historic city has been an educational hub having schools & colleges imparting quality education. But after one and half years of its existence,  Vikash has made a special place for itself . Now it is a household name in Orissa after the school was  adjudged as the best upcoming school of Bhubaneswar by a teachers’ organisation RACE,  and this has been  possible because of the hard work and commitment of all the staff under the motherly care of our beloved Principal madam Smt Vijaylakshmi Das.She is a great administrator and a resourceful  person which has really helped the teachers & students  to realize their inner potentials and sharpen their skills. The tremendous effort of the team in bringing up an all round child can be gauged by all of you within a few minutes from now when you will be charmed and entertained with 2 hours of colourful show by the students.

Here it reminds me of the golden words of Hitler...

“one who wins without facing any problem , it’s just “VICTORY”
“But one who wins with lot of troubles, that’s “HISTORY”

I request the whole gathering to give a big round of applauses to Principal madam and all the teachers for creating history in spite of many challenges and much pressure.

Vikash always believes that real education of a child starts outside four walls of class room and this belief has always inspired the management to promote curricular & co-curricular activities, Games & Sports in an extensive measure in all its branches and the product of this vision is the achievements of students in different competitions organised here at  Bhubaneswar, I even congratulate  Raj Ram Sahu  who has won Gold Medal in National level Karate Championship held at Mahabelswar last month.

When it comes to our +2 college, our vision is to  provide integrated coaching for preparing the students to excel in competitive exams along with their regular courses, for which  we have two sets of faculty- one permanent set of faculty who look after the regular classes along with study hours and provide individual care to the students  and another set of senior and  experienced faculty under the able guidance of Milan Samal who look after integrated coaching .  I am sure that under the special care and guidance of these faculties, the results of our first batch will be exceptionally well.

But my dear students,  this college is  running under the framed system which is a proved one but only a tested or proved system can’t help a student to achieve success. It requires ones  realisation to achieve the desired dreams.

It reminds me these words

“Manzilen unko Milte hain”
“Jinke sapno me jan hote hai”
 “Pankho se kuch nahi hota”
  “Hosle se Udan hoti hai”

When it comes to the provision and facilities of infrastructure,   in spite of several constraints, the management never hesitates in providing the best of the facilities to the students & staff. Lately we have installed an atomized roti machine which gives 700 chapattis per hour and I am proud to add that it is the first of its kind in the state of Orissa.

Our vision is to create a world class campus providing all amenities to the students and staff for which a land of 15 acres has been acquired and the plans of Academic building, Hostel Building & Staff quarters have been designed by a reputed architects. The construction work is going to be started within a fortnight and if everything goes on as per the plans, we hope that we are going to celebrate our  2nd annual day celebration in our own campus at Katani chowk which is  around 10 kms from here. But here I want to assure the parents one thing that this campus is going to continue as a day school campus in years to come to facilitate the day scholars of this vicinity.

Dear ladies & Gentleman, my long cherished dream of starting an IIT Olympiad programme for school students from class VI to Class X may transform to reality from the coming academic session-2010-11 after the establishment of our own campus. I feel this programme will be really useful for the students as a matter of fact that the CBSE board has already made the 10th Board Examination optional for the students  from this session and  this IIT programme is going to be an immense benefit to the students because the teachers will have  ample time to  prepare the students to face the tough challenges of competitive exams along with their 12th board examinations.  CBSE has actually effected this change to enable the students to develop all round skills and go beyond text books. And I am proud to announce that we are far ahead in this aspect since this very idea of IIT Programme for the students of Seconadary level was part and parcel of our vision for Vikash right from its inception. This vision of the management has given the platform for the students to excel at the national level.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the parents for displaying their faith on us which has been a driving force for all the Vikashites and I may be wrong if I do not accept that what ever Vikash is today it is because of the good wishes  & blessings of all the parents, I thank all of them from my core of heart and hope that they will have their same trust and cooperation on us forth coming years.

The sustainable growth rate of Vikash is the reflection of hard work and commitment of each and every individual associated with us. I want to give the credit to the people, who are always behind the screen, especially the non teaching employees of this Institution, right from front office, store, medical, hostel, mess, dining, house keeping & security.

At last, I express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Srinivas, Director Academics of Vikash Group of Institutions. Right from the beginning of Vikash in 2002, the hard work and commitment of Srinivas in bringing up Vikash is really something what cannot be expressed by some words. I put the big responsibility of Academic Director on his young shoulders in 2002, but dear audience, the administration and love for Vikash that  this young man has dedicated is inexpressible .He has even dedicated  himself to this campus and his round the clock presence and timely action is helping for the  smooth functioning of the Institutional affairs.

Here I conclude my speech and take leave from you assuring one and all that our vision  is to make this institution as  one of the best in the City.

PRINCIPAL MESSAGE

Vikash at Bhubaneswar is a monumental beginning in many ways.  Vikash is a dream straight from the heart, a desire for excellence and a passion to do it with love.
Vikash educational institutions at Bhubaneswar were inaugurated on 17th June 2009 by Sj Prasanna Acharya, minister for Health, Govt. of Odisha and the school started functioning on 29th June 2009 with 34 students and at the end of the academic year we were just 75 students. This academic year 2010-11 has seen almost five fold increase as we are 332 strong today with 203 boys and 129 girls. This magic figure is repeated as there are 203 day scholars and 129 hostellers. I thank the parents for their patronage and humbly acknowledge the faith and trust reposed in the ability and attitude of Vikash. We could open a second section in Class I only as the demand increased. But we had to refuse admission to many children due to lack of accommodation. But this year, we are ready for any number of new admissions as the new building of Vikash  is coming up shortly.
Please continue your unstinted support and patronage to this institution.
Similarly the College started functioning on 2nd August.2009 with few students but today we are 99 strong with 82 boys and 17 girls.
Thus the birth of Vikash is history in the making.
Location  :  We are functioning in a rented building in the vicinity of   the picturesque Khandagiri and Udayagiri caves  and we will be getting our own building with  large sized class rooms, residential accommodation,   staff quarters etc shortly.
Faculty  : The faculty members  of Vikash are known by two characteristics : desire to learn and strong will to teach. As on today, Vikash Residential School has 1 Principal, 7 Trained Graduate Teachers in English, Hindi,Odiya, Sanskrit,  Maths, Science and Social Sciences, 4 Primary Teachers in English, Hindi, Maths and Environmental Science, 2 Nursery Teachers for LKG and UKG classes, 1 Computer Teacher, 1 PET,  1 Librarian, 1 Music Teacher, 1 Art and Craft Teacher,  all on regular basis, and 1 Karate instructor and 1 Dance teacher on part time basis. All the teachers are well qualified, trained and computer literate.
Our college faculty consists of 1 lecturer each in English, Hindi, Sanskrit,  Odiya, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and IT.  The regular classes are being taken by very experienced faculty members of Milan Academy, Bhubaneswar.
The office administration is being looked after by 2 clerks, 1 office assistant and 1 receptionist.
TEACHER EMPOWERMENT :Regular workshops are conducted for the teachers that have empowered  them  with latest methodology like interactive method, activity method , CAL AND TAL,  teaching through Powerpoint  Presentations etc. Isues like Changes in the educational scenario, child psychology, guidance and counseling, evaluation  etc are discussed.
Amenities : 1 Computer lab with Broadband facility and LAN network, 3  Science Labs, in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology,    Library all common for school and college are  established and being updated  regularly.
ACADEMICS:  The academic programme at Vikash understands the needs of the growing child.  Children at Vikash learn how to learn and also are taught how to sustain their interest in learning so that child-inspired learning takes place.  We give them stress-free schooling and just not  a paper-pencil academic learning. What they need most is preparation to face life’s challenges. So, we follow interactive method of teaching-learning, restricting the role of the traditional teacher. Our class rooms are nothing short of laboratories, seminar halls and exhibition rooms as they produce lively  sounds of interaction, passionate discussions and meaningful conversations. Group teaching by students is a unique achievement at Vikash. The concept of CCE – Continuous and Comprehensive evaluation – suggested by CBSE is strictly implemented and the all round development of the child is regularly evaluated and remedial methods undertaken for betterment.
To help the late bloomers weekly remedial classes in every subject are held. The study hours in hostel also give a lot of support to these children and remarkable improvement in their  academic performance  is noticed. Many day scholars also attend these sstudy hours and get the advantage of tutorial guidance.
CO-SCHOLASTIC AREA : To allow  freedom of expression, to  realize their potential,  discover the hidden talents and give them exposure, a huge platform in the form of morning assembly  is provided  as an opportunity to grow as a speaker, dancer, singer, demonstrator, innovator, explorer and so on and so forth through a  wide range of activities like Quiz, talk on Our heritage, Science and health topics,  demonstration of a Science activity, song, recitations, etc. all organized by the Houses and  their performance is evaluated  The Best  Performing House will be  awarded a rolling trophy at the end of the year. To reach out to the shy and silent, class room assembly is conducted every Friday where it is made mandatory for them to participate.  In a sentence, every child is a part of the system. The resultant product is confidence personified in them.
HOUSE SYSTEM : To inculcate a spirit of healthy competition the House system is adopted. The students are divided into 3 houses viz., SHANTI, MAITRI AND PRAGATI. Competitions like memory test, spell bee contest, group discussions are held in addition to the normal events like song, dance, recitations, essay, debate etc. Students participate with great enthusiasm to make their house the champions.
SPORTS AND GAMES : The physical fitness aspect deserves more emphasis as children  nowadays follow not so healthy  life styles and suffer from a host of health problems like asthma, tonsillitis, obesity, under weight etc. A brisk and  regular physical exercise programme, games and sports activities, aerobics, karate, yoga etc are the immdediate need of children. The schools only can implement  this. Though we do not have a proper play ground,   we have a PET  and our children are trained in Mass PT, aerobics and karate in the weekly classes. They play games like Cricket, volleyball, badminton, skipping etc. in the regular games periods.   The annual sports for this year were conducted in the Kalinga Stadium on 25th Nov and  all athletic events were held  among the houses and prizes were awarded.
SPOKEN ENGLISH : Effective communication skills give us an edge over others. We at Vikash , strongly believe in this and the Spoken English programme is implemented in all sincerity and I am proud to  tell you that almost  all of my children  acquired the minimum competency in communication in English. It is insisted that they speak in English whether they are  in the school campus or in the hostels or in the play ground. But, other languages are not neglected. We sing prayers in Hindi and Odiya, and morning assembly programmes are presented in all four languages, Eng, Hindi, Odiya and Sanskrit
ACHIEVEMENTS: Coming to the out of school competitions we participated  in the group dance, solo song, solo dance competitions conducted by RACE, a teacher’s organization in Bhubaneswar  last  year itself and we were awarded the trophy of the BEST UPCOMING SCHOOL . This year too, we contested for the Group Dance and Solo dance and we won the first place in Group dance.  Alice Prabha Hobo successfully participated in the group discussion and was suitably rewarded .
The phenomenal success of Master Rajaram Sahu  at the Nationals  of Karate conducted by   Japan shotokai   at Mahabaleswar, Maharashtra  made us extremely proud. He bagged 2 gold medals this year. Last year too, he pocketed a bronze medal.
Our budding artists took part in  the CAMLIN COLOR CONTEST and won many prizes. They also participated in the Postal Drawing   competition and the results are awaited.  106 students participated in Olympiad tests of Science, Cyber, Mathematics and English.
I take pleasure in announcing that Master SABYASACHI PUHAN of std VIII took part in YATS contest – YOUNG ASSTRONOMERS TALENT SEARCH – organized by Pathani Samantha Planetarium with a written essay in the first round and a working model in the final round at state level. He deserves to be encouraged by all of you.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is well said that
Knowledge is  knowing  what to do
Wisdom is knowing how to do and
Virtue is in doing it.
Awareness programmes like National Education Day, Science day, Human Rights day, martyrs day etc; celebrations like Independence day, Gandhi Jayanti, Republic day, Diwali   etc; religious occasions like Ganesh chaturdhi, Saraswati Puja, Christmas etc expose great talents of our children. On these occasions children enjoy decorating their class rooms and school building and exhibit  a great  sense of communal harmony.  On National education Day,  on  11th Nov. our children did really wonders with their Computer presentations on Sarva sikhya Abhiyaan and mid day meal scheme. They surprised all with an exact replica of the most popular TV show ‘KAUN BANEGA CROREPATI’ with their  Chairman  and their Principal in the hot seat
MANAGEMENT :  The youthful exuberance of the management with the most distinguished Chairman Shri D. Murali Krishna  the dynamic, resourceful and a great visionary with  insight into the future, Shri G. Bhaskar Rao, Managing Director ,  Mr V. Srinivas,  Academic Director and  Mr D. Nageshwar Rao, Director Administration   - all   effective executors of plans, programmes and policies . This attitude of the management has been infectious to the young, dedicated and devoted team of teachers  who work joyfully to bring smiles on the faces of children.  What is most remarkable about the Chairman and the directors is their simplicity, humility, generosity and magnanimity, for on numerous occasions they have never taken into account what they have got but what they have given to the children.
HOSTEL : We have around 200 boys and girls  in our hostel who have the freedom of choice in food, in tours and travels, in study hours, in entertainment but with a sense of discipline. We do not encourage fast foods like  kurkure etc. We do not allow them to keep  mobile phones with them.  We also ensure that a child in the hostel grows up morally, physically, mentally and spiritually on a sound footing. The man-making and character-building education is of immense importance for us at  Vikash. With the co-operation of the parents I am hopeful that we produce worthy citizens from this great institution. Our kitchen is well equipped to prepare all kinds of dishes, sweets, snacks and the recent addition is the Roti making machine worth  4   lakhs which provides hot and soft rotis.
A young babe needs a helping hand always. We at Vikash are very sensitive to the emotional needs of the children who are away from home and thus counseling and talking out the problems form a significant feature of our system of education. The students have become stronger, confident and honest as a result of the counseling sessions.
PARENT TEACHER INTERACTION :  We have a wonderful rapport with our  parents through the PTA meetings on every 3rd Sunday of the month. I am thankful that the parents come and interact with the teachers  and the Principal in a meaningful way.  Their appreciation encourages us and their suggestions help us improve our performance. Here I would like to make an earnest request to all the parents to send their wards in time to school so that they learn to be punctual; to send them regularly to school and college so that they do not get habituated to lazy life and also to send them in proper uniform. May I request the hostel parents to restrict their visits to only once in a month that is 3rd Sunday  so that the children can concentrate better in studies.
Ladies and gentlemen, every school teaches Eng, Maths, Science,  Social Science etc. We at VIKASH also teach how to realize dreams, how to be famous, how to love somebody, how to live for others, how to make friends, how to know what they do not know  and anything worth knowing and worth doing. That’s how at VIKASH we turn mirrors into windows.
May every Vikashite grow up with love, loyalty and gratitude to become a worthy human being with humanity and humility.
